What is a Google My Business page and why do I need one?

Google My Business (GMB) is an online directory of businesses designed to help customers find information about stores, services and more when searching on the internet. It’s a great way for your store to connect with your target audience and increase awareness in the local area to drive footfall. Your Google My Business profile/ listing will appear on the right hand side of search results.

By having your own Google My Business page set up, you can:

  • Promote offers and discounts
  • Showcase products or services
  • Connect with customers through reviews and messages
  • Display your opening hours and address
  • Manage customer feedback efficiently

How do I set up a Google My Business page?

Creating a Google My Business page is straightforward – all you need to get started is access to the internet, a business phone number and a store address.

1. Go to www.google.com/business and sign in with your Google account. If you don’t have one yet, you can create one for free by clicking ‘ manage’ and following the on-screen instructions.

2. After choosing your business type (for you this would be, store or shop), complete all the required information including: name, address, phone number and category of your store. It is important that all this information is accurate so that customers will know where to find you when they search online or use maps apps like Google Maps app or Waze app to find their way to your store location.

  1. Once completed, click ‘Continue’ at the bottom of the page.

  1. You will be asked to verify your store’s address using a physical postcard or phone call – choose whichever you prefer and follow the on-screen instructions.

  1. Finally, click ‘Publish’ at the top of the page and your Google My Business page will go live!

And that’s it! You have now set up a Google My Business page for your store.

How to Edit Your Profile

If you want to make any changes to your Google My business profile once it has been populated and is live, you can do so easily by clicking ‘Edit Profile’ at the top of the page.
