How to stay motivated with this feel good Summer playlist

Business Growth

It’s been - to put it lightly - a hot summer. Can you remember it being this hot for such a long period of time?

It wouldn’t surprise us if any of you entrepreneurs are finding work harder than usual. Being in an office; in your home; or in a fancy coffee shop, is just a little bit harder when the weather is this good. Not to mention people are going on holiday (you might be too). There’s enough photos populating your Instagram and Facebook feeds of people on their ‘supposedly’ perfect holidays to make you that tad bit jealous (that's social media for you).

Working in the summer months can feel tough, but there are ways to keep you focused and on point, even if its quiet. How can you stay focused when it’s so easy for your mind to drift? Well nothing beats a good old fashioned summer playlist. This is something we spoke aboutat the start of January, but the summer feels like a great time to get those positive tunes out. Here are some of our favourites.

Duran Duran - The Reflex

A big hit from the 80s and a great up tempo song, that will keep you focused and sharp for the day ahead. You’ll be singing a long to the brilliant chorus - trust us, it’s catchy. Once you’ve completed those annoying orders and sent out those client emails, you’ll be strutting your stuff wherever you are. This is certainly for the less bashful types, who aren’t afraid to be a little bit adventurous.

Tame Impala - Let it Happen

Now for something a bit different. Tame Impala are a psychedelic rock band who have been around for about ten years. But it was their most recent album Currents which proved to be a big cult hit. And their best track from that album is this hypnotic masterpiece of eclectic sounds that would have impressed the late David Bowie. The alluring synthesisers will reel you in and help you focus on tasks you need getting done. This is mindful listening at its finest.

Nas - New York State of Mind

Let’s go all the way back to 1994 when hip hop music exploded onto the scene. And no doubt one of the biggest exponents of this was Nas. New York State of Mind was one of his classics from his first album Illmatic. We warn you if you have a nervous disposition towards cursing this is probably best avoided. But if like us you’re partial to some raw and gritty early 90s hip hop this will tick all the boxes. It will put you in the right state of mind to get your work done. It’s an absolute belter, so make sure the volume is high so you can hear every decibel of Nas’s extraordinary lyrical flow. An absolute masterpiece.

George Harrison - My Sweet Lord

Yes, this is the George Harrison from The Beatles. As well as being a part of the most famous musical act ever, he was also pretty good as a solo artist and My Sweet Lord was one of his first hits post Beatles. This is a wonderfully relaxing and beautifully written song. If you’ve had one of those terrible days put this on. Sit back, relax, unwind and distress. Sometimes things don’t go according to plan, but sometimes there is nothing you can do so don’t worry. After listening to this, you’ll feel energised and positive about the next task.
