British Gas Reverses £5 Minimum Spend

British Gas

Do you have customers visiting your store to top-up their pre-paid energy meters with British Gas?
If the answer is yes, you need to be aware that British Gas has recently announced that they are making changes to the £5 minimum spend rule for meter top-ups. The £5 minimum spend was first introduced on 1st January 2020; the same time their exclusive contract with Payzone and Post Office came into force.
However, this decision has been reversed and the new minimum spend is now £1.

So, what does this mean for your customers?

The change to minimum top-up rules means that customers visiting your store to carry out this transaction can now top-up their pre-payment meters in smaller monetary values but still in increments of £1. This will benefit the more vulnerable members within your community who may struggle to make a minimum payment of £5.

When will this change take place?

Now! Payzone has been working with British Gas to ensure that this change was available as soon as possible.

What do you need to do?

The good news is that you don’t need to do anything. We have already updated all of our Payzone terminals, so everything is exactly the same as normal. Just make sure that you let your customers know about the change to the minimum spend when they visit your shop, as they might not be aware of it.
