Top up at a Payzone store or Post Office branch
If you have a prepayment meter and you need to top up your OVO Energy key or card, you can do this at a Payzone or Post Office store. You can also do this using the barcode saved in your OVO Energy app.

Pay your bill by Direct Debit
You can pay your OVO Energy bill by Direct Debit, which you can set up via your online account. You pay a fixed amount each month, based on your estimated usage, to help spread the cost of your energy across the year. Choose a date that works for you, and your payment will leave your account at the same point each month.
Make an online payment
You can pay your OVO Energy bill online via the ‘Bills’ page of the OVO Energy app or ‘Make a payment’ section in your OVO Energy online account.
To pay your bill via the app, download it from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store and follow the account setup instructions.
To pay your bill via the OVO Energy website, sign in to your account. The secure, web-based payment service will take your online payment.
Pay via internet banking
To pay your bill via your internet banking app, make a bank transfer to OVO Energy using sort code 200000 and account number 83683249. Remember to quote your OVO account number and postcode, so they can link the payment to your account.
By phone
You can pay your OVO Energy bill by making a card payment over the phone. Call them on 0330 303 5063, Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm. OVO Energy accept most major credit and debit cards. However, they do not accept American Express.

How do I top up my OVO Energy prepayment meter?

How do I request a new OVO Energy prepayment key or card?
If you need a new top-up key or card, you’ll need to contact OVO Energy. You can do this by calling 0330 175 9669, Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm, and 9am to 5pm on weekends. You can also use the Live Chat function on their website.
Where can I pick up my new OVO Energy prepayment key or card?
The OVO Energy customer service team can recommend a PayPoint, Payzone shop or Post Office branch near you, where you can collect a replacement.
When you request a replacement, they’ll also give you an eight-digit code. Make sure you give this code to the shop assistant when you ask for your replacement card or key, to make sure it’s updated with the correct energy prices.
Can I get a new OVO Energy prepayment key or card posted to me?
The OVO Energy customer service team can send you a pre-programmed key or card in the post, but it can take three to five days, so this might not be the best option if you need to top up urgently.
When your new key or card arrives, you’ll need to register it to your meter before taking it to the shop to top up. To do this, insert it into your electricity meter with the arrow facing up. The meter screen will show a message when the key is registered. This can take around a minute.
How can I top up my OVO Energy pay-as-you-go smart meter?
You can top up your OVO Energy pay-as-you-go smart meter at any Payzone store, PayPoint store or Post Office branch. To top up, simply hand your card or key to the shop attendant and pay for the required amount. You can also add credit to your account using the barcode saved in your OVO Energy app.
To top up your OVO Energy smart meter online, go to the Ovo Energy Payment Portal, where you can log in using your account details, register for an online account or even pay as a guest.
You can also top up your smart meter via the OVO Energy Top-up app which can be downloaded through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. To use the app, you’ll need your top-up card number ready. That’s the 19-digit number found on your electricity or gas card.
Finally, you can also top up your OVO Energy smart pay-as-you-go meter by calling them on 0330 175 9669 and selecting option 1.
How can I top up my traditional OVO Energy pay-as-you-go meter?
If you don’t have a smart meter, you can still top up your pay-as-you-go meter at any Payzone store, PayPoint store or Post Office branch. To top up, simply hand your card or key to the shop attendant and pay for the required amount.
How do I top up my OVO Energy meter without a card?
If you have a smart meter, you can top up the using the OVO Energy Top-up app, but you’ll need your 19-digit top-up card number. If they’re stored in your app, you’ll be able to top up from there. If you don’t have access to you card number, you’ll need to get in touch with the OVO Energy customer service team.
If you do have access to the app, you can also top up at any PayPoint, Payzone shop or Post Office branch using the barcode that’s saved there. Alternatively, you might be able to find your card number on an old receipt.
If you don’t have a smart meter, you’ll have to get in touch with OVO Energy about a replacement card or key.
Why is my OVO Energy gas top-up card or electricity key not working?
If your OVO Energy top-up card or key is not working, it could mean that your card is either dirty or worn. Try wiping it with a clean damp cloth, drying it, then trying again. If it still doesn’t work, you might need to contact OVO Energy about a replacement.

How do I put emergency credit on my OVO Energy meter?
Traditional electricity meter
If you have less than £1 left on your OVO Energy traditional electricity meter, it will offer you the option to use emergency credit. To use this emergency credit, insert your top-up key into the meter. You’ll receive a confirmation message that it’s been activated and how much of it is left.
Traditional gas meter
If you have less than £2 left on your OVO Energy traditional gas meter, it will offer you the option to use emergency credit. Insert your top-up card into the meter with the gold chip facing up. Then press button ‘A’. You’ll receive a confirmation message that emergency credit has been activated, telling you how much is left on the meter.
If your gas supply is turned off, you’ll need to reconnect your supply when you activate emergency credit. First check that all gas appliances, like hobs and the boiler, are switched off. Then insert your top-up card into the meter. Follow the directions displayed on your meter screen, hold and release button ‘A’ and switch your gas supply back on.
Smart meter
If you have less than £2 left on your OVO Energy smart meter, it will offer you the option to use emergency credit. Once you activate it, you’ll see a confirmation message and how much of it is left on your meter. What is the minimum amount you can put on an OVO Energy gas card?
The minimum amount you can put on a OVO Energy gas card is £1, in amounts rounded up or down to the nearest pound. The maximum amount you can top up your OVO Energy gas card in one transaction is £49. You gas top-up card can hold a maximum of £249 credit at one time.
