Payzone UK, the leading European consumer payments and cash distribution network, and Alliance & Leicester, are pleased to announce they will be providing United Utilities, the largest operator of water and wastewater networks in the UK, with bill payment services to its cash customers.
From July 2008, customers will be able to use Payzone’s network of retailers, located in convenience stores, petrol stations and supermarkets, to pay (bar-coded bills or make regular payments). As there are more Payzone outlets across the North West than PayPoint and the post office, often having long opening hours, the service is expected to improve the convenience of paying bills by cash. (The company is expecting to process in excess of six million water bill transactions per annum.) Paul Charmatz, Managing Director of Payzone UK, said: "The new service with United Utilities exemplifies Payzone’s determination to take market share within the utility payment market. This is the second water payment service we have announced recently, which is testimony to the strong retail distribution network and collection practices we are offering utility companies." Brian Hurd, Customer Service Director at United Utilities, said: "We have been reviewing the payment options for our customers who pay with cash because we wanted to make sure everyone has access to a nearby payment outlet, with accessible hours of opening and no extra charges for the service. We think our customers will find the new arrangements much more convenient."
