Head of Sales – Payzone Card Acceptance

Responsible to: Head of Card Acceptance.

Objective: Reporting to the Head of Card Acceptance, the position is responsible for driving the future growth of the business by providing vision, direction and leadership.  Managing and developing a team of Regional Sales Managers and Field Sales Managers, the role leads on sales strategy and execution working with colleagues (client, product and marketing leaders) to ensure rapid sales growth: winning, securing, managing and developing customers.

Responsibilities which include: Accountable for defining and executing the sales strategy, tactics, plans and profit targets  that will deliver the performance objectives defined in the Card Acceptance Business Plan, building up a Sales Organisation to lead the rapid expansion of sales and with a particular focus on leading the improvement of all sales channels including…

  • Field Sales
  • Direct / Tele Sales 
  • Web / Digital Sales
  • Channel partnerships. 

Responsible for driving all Sales Interventions relating to business growth e.g. 

  • Effective recruitment and performance management of a professional sales team with industry leading employee retention rates
  • Improving marketing communication to new and existing customers
  • Planning and executing Sales campaigns and co-ordinated sales / marketing campaigns
  • Creating a market segmentation plan to facilitate optimal sales activities
  • Undertaking competitor analysis and helping to develop compelling, differentiated customer propositions
  • Identifying profitable new market segments and supporting the development of specific propositions, product development and business plans for expansion into those segments
  • Defining and delivering an effective  Customer Retention Plan
  • Delivering a ‘Switching’ programme to ensure the smooth and cost effective transition of customers switching from competitors
  • Identifying, testing and developing a broad range of alternative sales channels focusing on the implementation of those that deliver optimal ROI.

To carry out work safely in the interests of other employees and themselves, in compliance with current legislation and Company Health and Safety procedures.

To undertake any reasonable request as directed by your Line Manager. 

Key Skills & Experience:

  • Significant B2B sales experience in financial services, telecommunications or similar sector with a focus on high volume ‘door to door’ sales into small and medium sized businesses
  • Experience of selling complex products through multiple channels ideally in payments related sectors e.g. Card Acquirer, Card Acceptance Independent Sales Organisation, Payment Service Provider, Mobile Phone sales, Utilities.
  • Excellent sales and negotiation skills
  • Excellent business acumen with a track record of developing sales strategies and delivering results, directly and through others, to grow significantly the customer base.  Recognised for execution skills; and, ideally, experience in a fast growth environment.
  • Initiative, drive and enthusiasm
  • Excellent communication and 'people skills' and good planning and organisational skills
  • Strong sales planning skills, forward thinker; able to execute on the business vision; commercial focus; strong communication and relationship building skills; customer interaction skills, presentation, negotiation and influencing skills; 
  • Proven sales leadership and sales management skills; coach and developer of people; cohesive leader; able to influence and coordinate multiple internal stakeholders around a common goal and strategy, including particular and specific deals/initiatives; senior presence and ability to operate at different levels in the organisation, including at the very highest level; able to lead and manage in a matrix environment.
  • The ability to work calmly under pressure
  • Good IT, budget and report writing skills
  • A full driving licence
  • Degree; and Professional Qualification (e.g. in sales or marketing) or MBA.
